Week 4 Reading Reflection

1) What was the biggest surprise for you in the reading? In other words, what did you read that stood out the most as different from your expectations?
According to popcorn we expect that the things we buy will adjust our feelings. Make us feel more confident. I was also surprised when I read that the two important component of creative problem solving are process and people.
2) Identify at least one part of the reading that was confusing to you.
Reading that duplication was considered an innovation process when in my opinion duplicating ones invention or idea isn't considered original/ innovative unless you were to make it your own and better the invention.
3) If you were able to ask two questions to the author, what would you ask? Why?
- Why do we desire physical contact when we increase or workload and due to virtual relationships.
- Can being in different environments and surrounding yourself with certain individuals affect a person creative process? In what ways can she improve his/her process.
4) Was there anything you think the author was wrong about? Where do you disagree with what she or he said? How?
While reading this chapter, there wasn't much I disagreed on other than the part referring to the duplication and it being considered an innovation process.

Top 5 World Problems

Before you continue reading, I want to explain why I ordered my top five problems the way I did. Our world won't survive much longer if we don't start taking care of it. With no Earth to live in then what do we have? Yea we've been researching other planets that are sufficient and vital enough but what happens if the world "end" tomorrow ? We're all dead.  Poverty isn't something I want the world to be suffering from when there are ways to prevent it. Many out there are starving , hungry/ malnourished, homeless, and cold. While you read this on your fancy computer under a roof, there is someone out there right now begging for just a bite of bread. Rise in terrorist attacks. To be honest, this is a bit personal to me because many countries and those dear to me are suffering from these attacks when there really is no need for people to bomb innocent civilians to just make a point. Many might be thinking why sexual diseases? Those that are not educated and not practicing safe sex are having to take meds just so they can live longer. Those in poverty and third world countries are being raped and not being taught what STI's are. Billions are dying because of this. Discrimination is a huge deal. It's something that's been going on since possible the ice age. It cause wars, unwanted pain and tears. We're living in a society where things are slowly evolving but there are still people that disagree  with peoples new perspective on the world and the people in it.

Top 5 World Problems:

1. Extreme climate change
2. Poverty
3. Rise in terrorist attacks
4. Sexual diseases
5. Discrimination

Top 5 Solutions To World Problems:

1. To prevent extreme climate change, we can start by cutting out the use of fossil fuels (which we're doing), implement guidelines and policies on how we can reduce the use of these pollutants, spread awareness to the world, and many other solutions.
2. Many have been affected by STI's due lack of protection and knowledge on safe sex. Main solution  to prevent STI's would be to spread awareness via education and home! Many still don't realize that they can easily catch STD by unprotected sex. Countries around the world who are suffering from STI's can also be provided with prevention kits.
3. Problems like discrimination mainly arises by how one is raised. Those that have been taught to hate other people must be spoken to. What they've been thought to think isn't right nor do they have to believe what those around them believe in. People need to stand up and realize we live in a different world now. It isn't the same as it was as it's been told in our history books. We can do this by the normal tactics that have been used: education, protesting against our government , stand up for those being discriminated and let them know what they're saying isn't nice, speak your mind. STAND UP.
4. Poverty isn't something you can easily fix. However we can start by convincing countries that don't suffer from this to help stop poverty in countries that are currently suffering, improve water supply, supply them with agriculture equipment and such, improve the quality of education, etc.
5. How can we stop extremist from attacking? There has been many plans that have been implemented to stop these attacks. The main solution I think we can do to solve this is to get every world leader whose country is suffering from these kinds of attacks and see how they can work together to solve these issues.

One last note. I again chose climate change as my top solution because out of all of them I've noticed that we are taking more and more precautions on how we're living in this world as years go by.

Identifying Local Opportunities

    1. Weather alert: 40s in South Florida, with a warming trend this week      http://infoweb.newsbank.com.lp.hscl.ufl.edu/resources/doc/nb/news/15A938407819E0A0?p=AWNB
Compared to other parts across the region as well as other northern parts of Florida, Miami isn't feeling the real cold front nor snow blizzards. However for sunny Miami, they're currently feeling the 40's . Luckily for them, this isn't permanent. Forecast shows that the temperature will start to rise later on this week. For todays marathon runners, this weather is perfect but not so much for those that want to head out to the beach and sun bathe. The problem presented in this story, is the cold front Miami people are currently facing. Miami isn't normally cold, thus most people aren't properly prepared clothes wise. Those who travel from other cold countries are now unable to enjoy the sun. There is also an issue concerning travelers who are trying to leave Miami or those trying to get back home from places like New York who are now stuck in airports due to snow blizzards canceling flights.

    2.   Florida gunman distracted by no-firing gun scared off by armed victim who took own shot
    http://infoweb.newsbank.com.lp.hscl.ufl.edu/resources/doc/nb/news/15A938406A9A76B0?p=AWNB

On a Saturday night, a man was approached by a gunman outside his home in Manatee county where he was then forced to be lead inside quietly. Due to the intruders gun malfunction, the victim was able to act fast and grabbed his own weapon . Although his shot missed, he was able to scare off the gun-man. This situation causes an issue for other neighbors because the gunman can come back and attack via outside and make his way inside. This happening can also scare off those that were panning on living in manatee county. This causes a problem for realtors, the victim himself and those that live around him.

    3.  15-year-old girl accused of bomb threats at Keys schools
    http://infoweb.newsbank.com.lp.hscl.ufl.edu/resources/doc/nb/news/15A9384073104FB8?p=AWNB

A 15 year old girl who attends Marathon High, has been charged with false bomb threats, tampering with evidence, and giving false information to the police. It is also believed that she is not working alone. She's sent a photo of the school who was threatened to those she's working with. Investigators have yet to find out whose working with her. This is a serious issue that concerns the students, parents of those students, and the faculty of that school. The problem is that this girl and her accomplices have been disrupting the learning experience for others , caused investigators to use tax money to use their resources to find the person making this threats and causing fear to many.

4High wind knock out power for thousands in Miami-Dade, Broward.
    http://infoweb.newsbank.com.lp.hscl.ufl.edu/resources/doc/nb/news/15A9383197E67820?p=AWNB

On January 23, a total of 5,000 people who live in Miami Dade/ Broward have faced a power-loss. This affects everyone in this area because they are now unable to take hot showers , cook, and power their houses. Big corporations and business that need power to refrigerate their foods are now faced with losing money due to perishables .

    5. Homestead man arrested in MLK Day shooting of 14 year-old boy
    http://infoweb.newsbank.com.lp.hscl.ufl.edu/resources/doc/nb/news/15A93833597C0C40?p=AWNB

Police arrested Adrian Harris after matching his car with the one seen leaving the shooting scene on MLK Day. The victim, 14  year-old Martwan Santiago was hospitalized after being shot. This shooting caused many to be unsettled due to it being the weekend of MLK Day. Being that a teen was shot for no apparent problem is the biggest problem in this article and the fact that it took the police a while to match the car.
